Meet the designer Michael Hilgers
The Berlin design studio of the architect Michael Hilgers has been working on the development of new furniture concepts for the office, outdoor and kitchen industries for a decade with space-saving solutions for compact living.
Especially in urban areas there is an increasing lack of space and here his creative designs offer innovative and at the same time amazingly simple solutions, such as the ultra-flat bureau "FLATMATE" or the picture frame / wall bureau "FLATFRAME".
Michael Hilgers' designs combine inventiveness with minimalist design: The design method of 'pragmatic design' he developed focuses on the (space) problem to be solved: With this design principle, the trained carpenter consciously ignores conventional comparable products that are already available and thus develops on one white sheet of paper a new, individually fitting and above all practical solution. The resulting product appears familiar at first glance, but offers an innovative answer to everyday living problems through its reinterpretation, hidden functions or an amazingly simple construction.
Michael Hilgers is never interested in the invention of a spectacular shape; rather, he is attracted to discovering the 'special in everyday life'. The (multi) functional, flexible and space-saving furniture developed in his Berlin studio has received several awards including the "Interior Innovation Award" and has already been shown in various museums.
